About Carl Parris:
Carl Parris has had a lifelong interest in how rural and remote societies organize themselves to adapt to their physical environments. Working on a farm in Pennsylvania in his teens, living in Mexico and living/working in a farming village in China in 1971 fostered his interests in anthropology and cultural geography which he pursued in college until he dropped out to see the world. After working in an auto plant in Detroit for 7 years and later for IBM in Poughkeepsie for 33 years he is now retired. He jumped on an invitation to join a small team from the Explorers Club to visit the Matis Indians in 2018 which allowed him to re-discover his sense of adventure and interests in cultural survival for indigenous communities.
