Admission by application only: Tuition-free program for students in grades 10-12

The word portfolio has many meanings: a collection of works, a group of investments, and a container for holding things in one place.

The new PORTFOLIO program encompasses all of these definitions. Students will make an investment by creating a collection of works within the safe, supportive environment of The D.R.A.W within a group of peers who share a similar commitment to their growth as artists and designers. Intended for students with interests in higher education and/or careers in the arts, this program provides opportunities to develop art skills through self-exploration and artmaking.

PORTFOLIO combines group instruction in various art media, processes and contemporary concepts with independent, student-driven projects. They have access to professionals as guest instructors who will provide insight to their own studio work, unique perspectives on students’ work through direct feedback, and a deeper understanding of the broad spectrum of career pathways within art and design. Students will also be connected to resources and field trips to expand their awareness of contemporary issues and approaches to making while offering inspiration to bring back to the studio. Through such exposure, critical discussion, mentorship and focused studio practice, PORTFOLIO will not only support the development of a competitive portfolio for college or employment applications, but students will build a stronger sense of their choices, their aesthetic and their options while being able to project themselves forward into their future careers in art, design or curation with confidence and a sense of belonging.

PORTFOLIO meets on Thursdays from 6-9p.m. at The D.R.A.W. with access to Open Studio sessions on Monday afternoons from 3-6p.m.
