Remix: Interdisciplinary Exploration by the 2017 Summer Multi Arts Collectives
September 12 - September 17Free
“Remix: Interdisciplinary Exploration by the 2017 Summer Multi Arts Collectives” is a new exhibition on display at Vassar College’s James W. Palmer Gallery from September 12-17, 2017. It features works from three summer projects including one by summer artists-in-residence Courtney Starrett and Susan Reiser, and two student-led endeavors.
Starrett and Reiser created an inter-disciplinary lighting installation, “Intersections,” which investigates the form and aesthetic of the Vassar campus, with individual lamps meant to represent particular buildings, their architecture, histories, and current purposes.
The student-led projects are “Experimental Classroom” and “Windswept.” “Experimental Classroom,” is in three parts that puts classroom architecture in conversation with liberatory pedagogy and interrogating norms via physical interventions on classroom spaces. The concept behind “Windswept ”is to allow users to experience wind at any chosen location in the world. It explores the relationship between nature and mechanics by using mechanical motion to animate the natural phenomenon of wind.
The projects were supported by Creative Arts Across Disciplines, a project generously funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
