A united arts fund established in our community in 1979 as a
cooperative effort among Dutchess County businesses, government
and individuals to support and nurture all the arts in Dutchess
County.
It is in the spirit of unity that the Dutchess County Arts
Council launches its Art Fund every year. The Arts Fund is a community
-based fundraising effort bringing together government and corporate
leaders with small business owners, professionals, and others to
support artists and arts organizations. The diverse individuals
and groups that receive funding from the Dutchess County Arts Council
Fund express our commonality and strengthen our shared values.
The Arts Fund is a public declaration that this community, Dutchess
County, is united in the belief that arts are vital and essential
to who we are now and who we want to be in the future.
A core of community leaders representing diverse business and
community groups lead scores of volunteers. Throughout the Arts
Council Fund campaign they raise both money for the arts and awareness
about the benefits of the arts in our communities.
The 2007 Arts Fund campaign goal is $245,000. 10% needs to
be raised by local individuals and businesses.
The panel review process insures that
our community’s money is spent wisely. Groups that receive
funding must demonstrate high artistic standards, service to the
community and fiscal responsibility. Volunteer panels of community
representatives, artists, and arts administrators review applications
and make recommendations to the Arts Council Board of Directors.
At the Arts Council we do more than support high quality art
projects. We provide valuable unrestricted grants and services
that strengthen those arts organizations that are the bedrock of
our cultural landscape.
In 2007, twelve cultural organizations
will receive general operating support as Funded or Supported Members
and two Individual Artists’ Fellowships will be awarded.
In addition, 22 arts projects in Dutchess County and 22 projects
in Ulster County will receive funding though a combination of the
Arts Council Fund and/or the New York State Council on the Arts
Decentralization Program support. Fourteen Arts-in-Education
projects in schools in both counties also received funding. The
Arts Council Fund supports every artistic discipline and serves
people of all ages, ethnicities and economic backgrounds.
