The Queen City 15 Fine Art Gallery will present “Elementals” an exhibit featuring sculptures by Suprina Kenny-Troche and Lisa Winika that explores the comic and tragic ways in which the elements and elemental beings that represent them affect us. “Elementals” will be launched with a reception, which is open to the public, on Friday August 2nd from 5:00pm-8:00pm at the gallery located at 317 Main Street. It continues through Saturday August 31st. Suprina and Lisa will give an artist talk on Thursday August 22nd from 6-7:30pm at the gallery.
Earth, water, air and fire are the basis of our existence. The “Elementals” exhibit includes sculptures by Suprina, which challenge us to care about and act on important personal, societal and environmental issues. Her work features found objects as well as organic and inorganic materials. Lisa’s sculptures ask us to contemplate our ways of being as well as our interdependence with nature. Her work features plaster castings of human faces and torsos inextricably linked with organic elements like tree bark.
Both artists incorporate familiar everyday materials and items we cast off in their work. Their works are visual catalysts for a deeper consideration of our relationship with the elements and elementals; particularly s they affect us personally, socially, politically and environmentally.
