Come Celebrate the Hudson River and Help Support the Sloop Woody Guthrie!
Have fun! Eat! Drink! Listen to great live music!
Create something amazing! Get a jump on your holiday shopping!
Make money! Enjoy the company of old friends and new!
It’s the perfect evening: on Saturday, November 18th from 6:00-9:00 at Scenic Hudson’s Red Barn River Center on Long Dock Road in Beacon, The Beacon Sloop Club is sponsoring “Little Boxes,” a delightful art event to help raise funds to support Woody Guthrie.
Tickets are $25 and include a 3”x3” canvas on which you will create your interpretation of the Hudson River – whatever the river means to you! Return your finished canvas to us by Friday, November 17th, and come to the party on Saturday. Not any artist? Not a problem! Neither are we. This is a fun raiser and a fundraiser. The idea is to be creative and join the fun. You just might surprise yourself! Your tiny masterpiece of ingenuity will be hung, along with all the other tiny masterpieces, at the Red Barn, waiting for you to show up and celebrate the Woody, your friends, and your imagination. There will be three $50 People’s Choice Awards: one for The Most Spectacular, one for The Most Creative, and one for The Funniest. You get to vote for each category.
But the fun has only just begun. This event is also a silent auction. You set the starting bid for your canvas. Then each canvas will be auctioned off – the Woody gets half, and you get half. Plus, you get the opportunity to polish off all your holiday shopping in time to enjoy the rest of your holiday season!
The ferry sloop Woody Guthrie was commissioned by Pete Seeger in 1978 as part of his dream to preserve, protect and restore the Hudson River, by making the river accessible to anyone who wants to sail. For almost 40 years, the Woody has taken thousands of people for free sails on the river, but the years take a heavy toll on wooden boats. With much hard work and generous support, the Woody’s restoration was completed in September, but now we must raise money for winter maintenance to continue its mission of free sunset sails to the public. You can help!
Sound complicated? It’s easy. Here’s how it works: purchase your ticket online at http://bpt.me/3099189. Exchange your ticket for your canvas at the RiverWinds Gallery at 172 Main Street in Beacon. Want another canvas? Want ten? You can pick up extra canvases for $5 each. You can enter as many canvases as you like. Let your imagination be your guide.
So mark your calendar, and join us for an evening of delicious finger foods and drinks from local Beacon establishments, live music and lots of fun and friendship.
