Womenswork.art has the extraordinary opportunity to organize tours of artist Maddy Segall-Marx’s 10 year project The Singing Bowl, to benefit both Maddy’s causes and Womenswork.art.
This is how women support each other, in action. Viewing Maddy’s work in her Hyde Park Barn is astounding. As a young women, I had the chance to visit The Van Gogh Museum in Arles, the Leger Museum in Biot and go see Salvador Dali’s house in Figueres, Spain. Taking in the view of a life’s work is not the same as looking at an isolated piece of artwork, or a curated show and the opportunity to view a large body of work is rare. Fast forward, in the Hudson Valley, what Maddy offers is a house and barn museum that explores years of work. And Maddy will be there to narrate.
Maddy’s project is a ‘call to world peace’ from a woman’s voice, ‘listening to the enemy’: 25 war zone narratives, 25 recipes, to 25 artworks. While the initial connection in the visual works may be symbolic of food, Maddy lost herself in cultural identification as she executed symbiotically works that represent the countries of her study. In my view, to be so chameleon is uniquely female. We want to identify and become one with. Maddy’s work is very much about the world, more than about her. Her work expresses profound empathy and compassion, and in that way is deeply uplifting.
