Phyllis Chadwick

I am an aspiring artist from Pawling, NY. I work in many different mediums, though lately it has been with a concentration in watercolor, colored pencil, and graphite. In this series I wanted to experiment with a technique referred to as “negative painting”. Coincidently, I started with a heavy heart thinking of the senseless and random killings we hear about in the news almost daily. Starting with the stars, I began to think about and notice the multidimensional pain and wide ranging of effects of the mass killings. This comes across in the progression of the series. With each new painting, I kept thinking more and more about the hurting and those being hurt. This, I found, had me adding more- in the way of shapes, colors, and depth.
