I am Francine E. Michel, an Encaustic Painter from St. Petersburg, FL. My summers are spent in Northern New Mexico which is suited for the outdoor painting I enjoy. Gravitating to encaustic work was a pretty natural choice. It suits my desire to touch and feel what I am working with. There are many techniques to add to an encaustic beginning that satisfy my need to "try something new." For about a year, I painted the trees of Florida. Capturing the curves, forms and structures of different trees was a good challenge. Currently, my painting emphasis is flowers. Visiting several Botanical Gardens was a good choice for inspiration. I was immediately struck by brilliant colors. Encaustic painting allows me to go bold with colors. Creating texture where the light hitting adds to the effect.
