The 15th Annual ArtEast Studio Tour

ArtEast Open Studio Tour celebrates its 15th year featuring the artists that live and work in the Eastern Dutchess County region. Visitors will be able to enjoy prime autumn colors as they drive between each studio seeing a variety of artworks such as photography, fiber arts, metal, wood, sculpture, jewelry, and painting. With over 30 artists opening their studios, this is an opportunity to meet local artists and buy locally-made art.
The self-guided tour features artists that have participated over the years, gaining a good following from the community: Bob and Karen Madden’s Rock and a Soft Place studio, a family of artists at the Michael Gellatly, Tilly and Julian Strauss studio stop, and painter Susan Hennelly, to name just a few. Linda Puiatti was one of the original founders of the ArtEast Open Studio tour; stop in and see her studio filled with minimalist landscape paintings.
Glass artist David Morrison opens his Pawling studio for the first time exhibiting his fused glass pieces. Also in Pawling, see Samara Kane’s jewelry creations with fine metalsmithing details. Bob Ferrucci paints charming folk art landscapes, frequently of local farms and the sweeping territorial views of the Hudson River Valley. Elaine Clayman paints narrative portraits that transcend language – she will be showing together with photographer Bill Prickett - all located in Pawling.
Several artists are showing their work at the White Barn in Patterson – see Karen Adalaar’s expressionistic paintings and ceramics, Shelley Dell’s paintings where light is the focus, and Gretchen Hoffman’s delicate watercolors. Also located in Patterson, stop in and see the found wood sculptures created by Margery Davis and at Doreen O’Connor’s open studio, browse samples of indoor murals and decorative painting projects she’s completed.
In Poughquag, sculptors Karen and Bob Madden each approach their art through different visions. Bob Madden’s stone sculptures could be at home in a garden or a home. Karen Madden’s fiber projects and joyful steel sculptural shapes and sunburst wall designs would add color and form to an interior design. Brian Wohrman’s unique metal and wood sculptures can be seen at his studio in Lagrangeville,
Fine art photography is well-represented by Lori Adams. Her recent project, “Netherlandish Inspired,” consists of floral still-life developed into a series of art that seem at first glance to be from the Dutch Golden Age. Photographer Susan Bores focuses her artistic vision on spectacular Hudson Valley nature scenes capturing favorite vistas.
Jack Graf was so inspired during a previous ArtEast Open Studio tour that he began creating. His work consists of American flags made from wine corks – he claims to have made 500 pieces in this style. Other folk art creations can be found at the studio of Rick Gilstad, aka ERIX. His studio is bursting with objects he has repurposed into works of art and could also be considered an art installation that visitors can enter. Look up when you walk inside and see how an artist can customize their space with meaningful objects from their life.
